1st Quarter of 2009!
Haha` One deep breath and guess what?
School starts tomorrow~~~~~~~~AGAIN!
Just finished my one week vacation, and today is a public holiday... whew~
More like a study vac~ haha~
Tomorrow waking up at the same old time of 0510hrs (with the same SE 'greetings' ringtone), eating the same breakfast of yoghurt mixed with Weet-bix and brown bread -Last year was simply just yoghurt with bread, hahaha~ this year invented new breakfast le, not only adding Weet-bix to the yoghurt, even the yoghurt is combined with 2 flavour, one is Bulgarian/Greek Yoghurt and the other is just any random sweetened flavour :) The reason is normal sweetened yoghurt taste like cheap, watery and overly sweetened, but combining them with Bulgarian(which is thick) just made it perfect :)
Breakfast till 0600hrs, and VROOM! VROOM! off I go----------->to the toilet(hehe~) 10 mins or so``depending... and by the done I am done, Bro is already waiting outside , ready to go.
2 major difference between last year and this year is: Firstly, I am not travelling alone anymore. Secondly, we are driving instead of taking the trains. Without traffic, going to school takes only 1/2 hr but due to my stomach misadventures in the morning, we face the infamous N1 traffic where Capetonians also leave their house 2 hrs before the office hours start- which is at 8am.
There are three lanes on N1, and every single morning, we will be playing a game of guessing the right lane to take, in a heavy traffic situation, choosing the correct lane will speed up your trip with wonderous effect and on the contrary, if you made the wrong move.... tsk tsk tsk... it will definitely spoil your morning!!
----_____----- Totally messed up.
We reach school at around 0700hrs, which we make use of the available 1hr to read up/catch up. Ironically, even though driving is much faster than taking the drive/train/train/bus(takes about 1 1/2hr) We only start leaving at 1900hrs...so, basically we spent 12 hrs in school... Most of my lectures ends around 1300hrs... I am either studying in the library, sweating abit at the basketball courts or attending afternoon tutorials.
On the way to UCT.
UCT is at the left base of Table Mountain(specifically Devil's Peak) and the whole area is covered with a cloud of thick fog...it looked so heavenly. The mountain seems even more distant and bigger~
Right now, I realise that I am not blogging properly now.. haha~ Forced to do like a quick summary of my first quarter... didn't really elaborate on my feelings on this 1st quarter.
Well well~ Regarding this part, it might as well be divided into 2 parts... namely feelings about the academic side of life and feelings on social side of life.
Social side of things are cool as always, but this year I finally notice something, when the tests aren't near, everyone seems very cheerful and sociable, but once tests came close on our necks, everyone seems to be much easily irritated and jumpy. Haha` it is just natural reaction of people. But be it tests or not, everyone still bond close, helping each other and after the tests , hoping to beat one another! haha~~
Another issue worth of note is Brett and Naveed found their other half le! Congrats to them! Sigh~ honestly, I am as happy for them as I am as gloomy for myself~~ haha` It is really kinda tempting to start a brand new relationship, yet thinking back to the past and recalling about what relationships brings (more trouble than help) simply just kill those floating thoughts, combining with the thought of my studies on hand and ahead of me simply flattened any of the ideas.
Humans are animals, we look for potential mates.
Humans are weird animals, we place restrictions on our natural primal instincts.
Some Humans even go as far as to say "We are not animals!"
Like it or not,
To me, we are intelligent but weird animals.
WHY?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This first semester, I was lucky to have all my lectures at only 2 venues- Snape DO1 and Menzies 12. Whew~ save all the walking```! But doesn't save me from the confusing lectures of Signals and Systems I!!!
On the academic side of things, having only 5 courses in the first semester, it might at first seems to be on a lighter scale than last year... but soon I know , it is by no way lighter. 2 of my courses are only a 1 semester course and worth the least credits, yet they SURE GAVE ME A HELL OF A HARD TIME. They are SIGNALS AND SYSTEM I and ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL MATERIALS.
Geez like it, S&S is like a greek course to me, although I know the lecturer is a brilliant chap but the contents are just blank. Have to refer to Shitesh for weekend help(thats how I pass my first test-50%) now, touching on Fourier Transformation is like holding sand in my hands...I need to get a bucket soon or else...(*&^@#*) E&MM is not that bad in the concepts but when they place 186slides on your plate- 你真的会有一种吃不消的感觉! 但也只能拼了!!
Besides this two thorns in my head, the other 3 are Maths , Power and Electronics, seems like Maths is a good start for me and I need to maintain! Power isn't that hard but I just have to keep updated, Electronics is a monster, I do not get why people enjoy electronics... when I look at the contents , I double my confidence in going in to Heavy-Current specialisation in the future, haha~ till now, I found Power more interesting than Electronics~ but I have to state something...
Those people who invented the logic systems and created computers based on 1/0 and true/false are truly out of this world. When I say out-of-this-world , I mean they practically speak another language or the way their brain works or see things is really, really intriguing.
