Firstly, I am not a/an OTAKU nor am I a drama/dorama/korama/wateverma fanatic. HECK! (but I am a movie fanatic! :)) I do enjoy some of them, depending on the contents.
If it is some romantic made-up crap, I won't even peek. But if it is something that touches reality, horror or comedy- I might consider.
To me, most dramas today are about love stories that seriously are outta-this-world and bullshit-ridiculous. I've only watched 1 drama that I truely love, it is a dorama called " Tokyo Love Story" or "東京愛情故事". Anyone who wants a good drama should watch it(if you can still find it! a 1991 show~! :P) , it is widely regconised as Japanese drama representative.

Let's get into the main theme today that I would like to write about...
There was this sudden, impulsive rush to write an entry about this recent anime I am watching...
Welcome to the N.H.K
A total of 24 episodes. I've watched up till 19 , can't bear myself to finish this anime.
I've also added this anime to my list of favourites(which is really not many, in other words- it must be a meaningful or something special about it. Something that hit me.)
Welcome to the N.H.K ni Youkoso! The opening logo.
To say the least, in order to fully understand and enjoy this anime~ I suppose one would need to be of a certain age or have being through certain life experiences to be able to relate/体会 the deeper meanings.
On wikipedia, the title's genre was classified as -comedy drama, dark comedy, slice of life. I am not a spoiler so I'll just place my feelings here.
The main protagonist,Satou(22) on the right and his friend,Yamazaki(21) on the left.
NHK stands for Nihon Hoso Kyokai the well-known Japanese broadcasting company. But in the show, N.H.K was to stand for Nihon Hikikomori Kyokai.
The word "Hikikomori" is a japanese term to describe certain individuals that shy away from a social life, prefering to confine themselves inside the house or their room , away from the outside world.
It is a phenomenon happening in the world today, other similiar terms are NEETS(British term standing for "Not currently engaged in Employment,Education or Training"), Freeter(Japanese term) and taiwanese terms 家裡蹲 , 宅男/宅女 .
Although based on a serious theme, the comedies are the most enjoyable!!!!
I have friends who are currently heading a straight path towards such lifestyles...or already living... sometimes I really wish to help them by giving them advices and encouragement.
But, as usual, at the moment of conversation, I might seems to ignite some kind of courage but, as days gone by, they revert back to their old, unconfident selves.
A creative, yet figurative representation of a...
"One who lost sight of the future, living under parents, unable to step out the first step, no will power, no courage to try---ending up dreaming of instant successes in the future. "
Thats what the show describe individuals who have high tendencies of becoming a Hikikomori.
It is scary.
Yet I believe there is definitely a way out of such living habits.
I am even more determined, not to become one myself after watching the show. And I will try to intro the show to them.
I hope it will help.
This room is a very common scene . Another reason I loved this show is the details the artist take heart to draw. Incredible. There are plenty of figurines and multicoloured books. Yet, so many different angles were shot in the room, imagine how easily a mistake could be made!
The colour and drawing of characters are kept very simple and tidy, fitting the feeling of a comedic anime.
Aside from all the serious stuff~~~
One thing that I am 'struggling' when I watched this anime was the romantic parts of the anime... it is really kinda addictive( although romance was never the main theme of the show).
If you wondering why I am "struggling"...well...personally, I hate made-up love stories and their scenarios, so~ one part of me was cheering "wow..." the other part of me is screaming "don't be an idiot leh!!"
Main female lead, Misaki (18) The kind of girl that alot of guys will love to meet. Gentle, cute, smart, affectionate, innocent, mysterious...well, IN A OBVIOUS SENSE` such a person probably is extinct or never ever existed in the human history! ("don't be an idiot leh!")
One of my favourite scene. (alot of ppl probably will go..."awWwWw....." -_-)
Not wanting to spoil anything any further(if I did) , I'll end here.
whew... this is a good show. A rare one.
Happy that I manage to watch it... Probably going to finish watching it sometime soon. Embracing the hype for alittle longer!
Sa~~ if anyone of you interested in what a hikikomori is all about , or just lack of some entertainment to spice yourself up....
OR
....simply curious to know what could've inspire an Anti-drama person like me to write a entry on a anime~~~~
Please watch...
Welcome to the N.H.K
